The Soldati class destroyers were the last and largest class of Italian destroyers laid down before and during World War II. Named after military professions, the ships were essentially repeats of the preceding Oriani class in armament and performance. Some of the later vessels would omit the starshell gun for another 120mm/50 gun. Of the seventeen vessels completed, ten would be lost in action, and another five would be given away as reparations. Two vessels, Carabiniere and Granatiere would serve in the postwar Marina Militare, the Regia Marina's successor.
