Ships in class: 4
The Maestrale class were an attempt to remedy the shortcomings demonstrated by the preceding Dardo and Folgore classes. They bore the same powerplant and weaponry as the Dardo class, but were ten meters longer. While active, the ships were upgraded, trading a torpedo mount for extra AA weapons, a starshell cannon, and depth charger throwers. Two of the ships were sunk at the Battle of Matapan, and another not long before the Italian surrender.
