Hi,
I just want to say hello. Me and three of my friends played Naval War for the first time yesterday. We played a historical scenario and what happened in the battle was very authentic. We surely will play again using this rules.

Regards,

Lindinho

Welcome!! It is very nice to hear you guys had a good battle. Would you like to share some more info on the battle you played? (I'm always very keen on hearing other people's experiences with the set)

I hope you will enjoy your next battle!

Great! Please let us know how that one turned out! Will you be using the current version (1.3) or the 1.4 beta rules?

We used the 1.3.6 rules.
The US fleet was formed in a scouting line. Two destroyers leading. Followed by two cruisers and two more destroyers. We divided the fleet in three squadrons.
The Japanese had two squadrons. One light cruiser and three Destroyers leading and three cruisers behind, forming a single line all together. The two fleets were positioned opposite to each other heading to the enemy. We quickly came to gunnery range and both fleets tried to show broadsides for maximum gunnery efficiency. The two leading US Benson destroyers and the two US cruisers were able to shoot at the leading Japanese light cruiser (Abukuma Nagara class) sinking it very quickly. The Japanese captain did not even have a chance to break off or even make a command roll. The American firepower was devastating. But the Japanese were able to unleash their long lance torpedoes. The leading DD USS Bailey was hit by one torpedo and the flagship USS Richmond (Omaha class) by two torpedoes. As expected they were immediately sunk.
Unfortunately time ran out and we had to end this battle. I tweaked the rules a bit. Historically the Japanese heavy cruiser Nachi (Myoko class) launched its floatplane just before the battle started. So I allowed the Nachi to ignore the +1 target modifier for extreme range fire as its aircraft was directing the fire.
Our next battle will be with your 1.4 Beta rules.

Lindinho

I'd like to tell you more about me and my game group. One of my friends is registered in this forum as well. His nickname is "Makulator". Our group is located in Germany. We are six guys playing all sorts of wargames. Currently Naval Miniature Games are our focus. For WWII Naval Wargaming we use 1/2400 scale Miniatures from GHQ. These Minis aren't cheap but show great details.

Great! I think I read the review on your forum, it was very kind as far as I could make out (although my german is a bit rusty) :). Very happy to have you guys. If you ever cross the western border let me know (I'm from the Netherlands).
