Another newbie

Hello all! I'm a newbie to the Naval War community. I've always like naval wargaming, and have played the heck out of Harpoon on my old Mac SE (age is showing!). Now, I've picked up some Topside Minis ships from WWI & WWII along with 3rd edition of Grand Fleets. More recently, I heard about Naval War and was interested in how it handles naval battles. FYI, I've been more interesting in WWI naval battles recently.

I've started reading the rules, and they look pretty good. I have the River Plate set of counters from Topside, so I'll probably give that one a go with Naval War soon. The Bismarck battle set from TSM is tempting me, too. Or maybe I should get some of the smaller carrier battle sets? Or ...

I'd actually suggest Narvik 1 and 2, it's a low cost option that along with a few additions of single ships would let you play the Battle of Norway with couple of variations. It'd be significantly cheaper as compared to say Coral Sea or one of those.

Pugliese - thanks for the recommendation. I hadn't really considered the Narvik sets. As for the carrier battles, I was looking at the Early War Pacific set for $15. Still deciding, but will play the River Plate scenario first.
