My problem here is that I have no more than basic knowledge of WW1 naval warfare. Setting up that database, (and subsequent Command stations and OoB's) would require an enormous amount of research and work, not to mention playtesting and such.... And I havent even come close to touching all aspects of WW2 in the current version yet.

I may be able to help with some of that. No hurry!

As you have indicated not to look at the stats and I did it anyway:
Validated these:
Bismarck-class Battleship
Deutschland-class Heavy Cruiser
Emden-class Light Cruiser
Type 1936-class Destroyer
Type VII-class Submarine
Rudder in Output Data Base shows 5 boxes (green, L – orange, C-orange, R-orange, x-red).
Rudder in the Navypedia shows 4 boxes (green, L – orange, R-orange, x-red).

S-Boat
Navypedia does not show the stern ASW stat

Yes, the rudder is a small improvement I made since it can also be stuck in the center (C) position.

The S boat ASW stat is something I added and forgot to add to the list in the first post, probably not the only small change that slipped my mind :) Thanks

Unfortunately I do not know Excel very well so my first attempt to use the Fleet Builder has been a fail:

-- I was able to extract the two files;

-- I was unable to access any of the data and none of the buttons functioned.

This is probably due to my ignorance with the program. Can anyone provide information on how to activate the data and enable the macros? My MS Office 2010 Excel Version prompted me to enable editing and enable data, but the Fleet Builder did not function after doing so. My apologies, but there will probably be a few other users with my level of expertise who will eventually want to use the system; unless of course the plan is to eventually host this on the NW site with access through an interface for users to use.

Usually Excel asks you if you want to enable macro's in your file. Did you enable macros in addition to the data?

I believe I enabled the macros but was not prompted by Excel to do so -- followed the procedure listed in the Help file using the File tab. End result is it is still not working.

I received the new file you sent most recently, but again it is not working. This version doesn't even prompt for the data to be enabled.

My Excel is the 2010 version and even after enabling the compatibility button it still does not work.

It looks like I won't be able to help after all -- my apologies. I guess there is a reason I've never really used Excel! :)

It seems that a lot of the errors in the older excel files are due to my use of INDEX and MATCH formulas in addition to the macros. I'll see if I can make a 'dumbed down' 2003 file without macros and with only VLOOKUP formulas.

Back to the drawing board...

Hi,

I'm new to this rule set and I'm definitely interested to try out and test the Excel worksheet that you have.

Right, so I have the fleet builder worked out, but I'm not going to completely replace the data cards with the new system. Some people might not have access to excel or others might like the 'deluxe' datacards over a printed out roster. So I've also been busy to restructure my datacards to fit all the new changes, and to make them more rubust for future changes like campaign and scenario play. I've now used the same process for all three data-card types, ships, planes and officers. All of the data is now fed straight from my database just like in the fleet builder.

The ship cards are 10x15cm as previous and the others are adjusted to that general size, so an aircraft card is 1/4th the size and an officer card is 1/2 the size of the ship cards
