Hey, I'm Dave and I've just started getting serious about Naval Wargamming. I printed out all the stuff for Naval War (I used really nice, heavy, glossy card stock for the command stations, captains, and counters thus negating the fact that this game is free ) and brought it to my wargame group tonight and tried it out with a guy who normally plays GQ. We had a good time, most likely got a lot of rules wrong, but nonetheless he wanted to try it again and asked for this site. I'll probably be posting a lot of rules questions on here in the coming weeks, but I look forward to taking part in the discussion. One thing we noticed during our play (Denmark straight scenario if you're curious) is that the systems damage is easy to repair and it seemed like ships didn't really deteriorate all that much in a permanent sense. Like we would break the engines doing flank speed orders and then fix them right back up. Or we would lose some guns and then immediately repair them. I wonder if adjusting the number needed for damage control might help the systems damage have a more lasting effect and not just be a record keeping chore with little effect on the game. IDK, I'll have to play more and see.
